“I always try to look at things from an optimistic perspective because there is so much to learn from every experience or challenge that life has for us- it all in how we choose to see it.”
1.What’s your name? Where did you grow up? What do you like to do?
My name is Keneda Gibson. I grew up in Oakland Cali. I like spending time with my daughter, learning new things, climbing trees, nature walks, recently went rock climbing this summer, playing in the dirt, walking barefoot, bike parties, family events, getting crafty, home improvement projects, up-cycling things, building things, looking at the stars, meditation, puzzles, perspective, helping people, art, living, and dreaming.
2. What was the happiest time in your life?
The happiest time in my life is when I became a mom. That’s when my old life ended and a new one began. I’ve been enjoying nearly every day ever since. Parenting is a real challenge- it’s taught me to have patience, fortitude and love, all precious beads of wisdom.
3. Describe one thing that makes you the most proud?
I’m most proud of the way I deal with adversity when it’s knocking at my door.
4. What was your most difficult time? How did you get through it?
I have so many difficult times. My life up until just a couple years ago has been a series of misfortune events- one after the other (not that there weren’t any great times because life has ups and downs of course)… Shakespeare could write my tragedies.
The most recent low point for me was in December 2010 when I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease and had to undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatments- I waited until after Christmas to start. My family helped me to think positively and that really helped me through it. I try to always look at things from an optimistic perspective because there is so much to learn from every experience or challenge that life has for us- it all in how we choose to see it.
5. If you could have another life when you die, what do you want to be (an animal, a plant or an object)?
I think that I would like to be a planet if I died and came back as something else. I would be able to nurture all types of different life and really get to know each one at the root of its existence.
