Youth Spirit is delighted to be holding its 6th Summer Intensive Art Jobs Training Program this summer! Our stipended program begins Monday June 17th and runs Monday through Friday 10am to 6pm til August 16th. Youth, ages 16 to 25, can participate in our morning Art Studio program, 10am to 2pm, or our Afternoon Community Art Program, 2:30pm to 6:30pm. Youth Spirit young artists are continuing their work using art in community health education in 2012/13 with three new public art works scheduled for South Berkeley: 1) the traffic turn-a-round at Woolsey and Ellis Street; 2) 16 mosaic street barricades on Ashby Avenue between Shattuck and Telegraph Avenue; and, 3) the “Sweet Adeline” planter at 63rd and Adeline Street. This project led by YSA Apprentice Leader Elijah Mount-Finette includes beloved volunteer Priscilla Hine and students from the Berkeley High School Arts and Humanity Academy, Mumal Salim, Seiya Suzuki, and Jessical Gutierrez, as well as neighborhood residents. Monday September 17th Youth Spirit begins our Fall 2012 Art Jobs Training Program involving over twenty East Bay young people in our exciting art making efforts! Join us! Youth participants can choose training sessions either Mon/Wed/Fri. 3:30pm to 6:30pm or T/Th/F 3:30pm to 6:30pm. We are also open Sat. Noon to 3pm to make up hours.
Youth Spirit is delighted to report that Friday August 10th 25 youth completed our eight week Summer Intensive Art Jobs Training Program climbing our Progression Ladder gaining skills, experience and self-confidence as they work toward personal and professional goals! We are grateful for all of the efforts of our Leadership Team making this terrific work possible.
Youth Spirit Artworks, the art jobs training program serving low-income young people, ages 16 to 25, is currently accepting applications for its Summer Intensive Art Jobs Training Program. Our two summer program sessions are June 20th through Aug. 5 Monday through Friday–mornings:
Studio Art: 10am to 2pm at 2701 MLK Jr. Way at Derby and afternoons
Community Art: 2pm to 6pm at 1769 Alcatraz Avenue.
Youth are paid training stipends of $300 for participating if they complete the full training.
